About Katy Perry

Katy Perry, was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984. She had grown up with very religious parents, and sung gospel music for her local church. During her first year at high-school, she decided to pursue a career in music, and released her first album under the name Katy Hudson. The 10-song album failed to make the charts, and Katy later completed a second album, which was never released.

One of the Boys

In 2007, she signed with the Capitol Music Group, and changed her stage name to Katy Perry. This was her fourth record label in seven years. Her first mainstream album, One of the Boys was released in 2008, gaining her three Billboard Hot 100 top-ten songs, with 'I Kissed A Girl', 'Hot n Cold' and 'Waking Up In Vegas'. Using this album as material, she toured with the 'Hello Katy Tour' in 2008-2009.

Teenage Dream

In 2010, her third studio album, Teenage Dream was released and shot to the top of the Billboard 200 chart and spawned five number one singles - 'California Gurls', 'Teenage Dream', 'Firework', 'E.T.' and 'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)'. This was the only album since Michael Jackson's 'Bad' to do so, and she was the first female artist in history to achieve such success from a single album.

Part of Me

In 2012, Katy Perry released a new single, 'Part of Me' which also hit number one. Another album is expected to be released in late 2012.

Personal Life

Katy has previously had a relationship with Travie McCoy, the frontman for Gym Class Heroes, who she met whilst recording her first mainstream album in New York. The two split in December 2008. She was then involved with Matt Thiessen, the frontman for Reliant K. Matt also worked on her album, Teenage Dream.

In 2009, Katy Perry met Russell Brand when filming a cameo for Brand's film, Get Him to the Greek. The cameo never actually made it into the final cu of the movie, however Perry revealed that her role in the film was to make out with Brand.

Katy and Russell began dating when they met again in September 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards, where Brand (as the host) said "Katy Perry didn't win an award and she's staying in the same hotel as me, so she's gonna need a shoulder to cry on. So in a way, I'm the real winner tonight.". The pair engaged in December 2009, while they were vacationing together in India.

They wed on October 23, 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India, at the same location where Brand proposed. However it was not to be. After just 14 months, Brand filed for devorce from Katy Perry on December 30, 2011 citing 'irreconcilable differences'. This came shortly after the media had reported that they had a 'Massive Fight' and spent Christmas 2011 on opposite sides of the world.
